Permalink Reply by Jason on March 10, 2013 at 1:59pm I understand everything that you are saying, but it just isnt the same. Some schools have just a better following when it comes to out of town games. ONLY A FEW SCHOOLS are known to take over entire stadiums and cities, and AGAIN, thats really ONLY FAMU, SU, and Tenn St.
And remember this, there is a BIG difference from a BIG attendance at the SWAC/MEAC championship, Gulf Coast Classic, Capital City Classic, etc, and in a 70,000 seat dome.
Often times, some of these promoters dont understand the dynamics among black college football, and they think along the lines of WHITE COLLEGES< YOU CAN GET ANY 2 TIMES FROM ANYWHERE, PUT THEM IN A NEUTRAL STADIUM, AND IT BE PACKED OUT. ...umm NO. that works for Ohio State vs Notre Dame, NOT Albany State vs Morgan State.
I think Grambling could bring a NICE crowd,...nice enough for excitement, but I cant see their crowd reaching the 3rd level of the GA Dome.
Other than FAMU, SU, and Tenn St, ...any other matchups would look like the Heritage Bowls of the 90's. Nice crowds on the first level, kinda sparsed on the second level, and the third level is CLOSED!

if thats the case the SWAC as a whole in 2012 had very low numbers even big rival games. Even when that gulf coast classic was here bama st did not bring a huge crowd i think the destination matters too.. The swac has their games they pick andchoose to go to also. Like gsu anything in texas gsu will bring a good 30,40k txsu,pv,valley, alcorn and aamu rarely bringanything. But if two swac schools were to do the atl classic im sure 'ppl will go to see the new teams playing. I get what you're saying but over thelastfew yrs travelhg as a whole been crazy. Jsu vs sunumberd were low but they brung a crowd to atl which is further. The ga schoos too hzve low numbers but fountian city classic has 30k
Permalink Reply by TruChoppa on March 11, 2013 at 6:09am Alabama State can draw numbers in Atl. It's one of our biggest alumni cities and its only 2hrs away so traveling is not a problem. FAMU and SU havent quite packed out the dome either. Last year it drew a crowd of a little over 41,000 and in 2011 over 58,000. The Magic city classic had over 58,000 last year and over 66,00 in 2011. I doubt that any two HBCU's could completely pack out the dome. I think ASU vs TennSU would do numbers though.

Permalink Reply by Jason on March 11, 2013 at 9:18am I do agree with you, ASU vs Tenn St would do pretty well. BUT, Alabama State is not used to a dome stadium atmosphere, and even tho the school is only 2 hours from ATL, I think, AGAIN, they would bring a nice crowd for the 1st and 2nd levels,...but these promoters are looking for as closed to a PACKED house as possible, and once again, NOT MANY SCHOOLS ARE CAPABLE OF THAT.
But to your OTHER point, we ALL know why attendance numbers were LOW from this past years game...DONT FRONT. lol. 1/2 of the ENTIRE Atlanta Football Classic experience was not there. But rest assure, if SU and FAMU were in it this year, with the return of the 100.. it wouldve been a RECORD crowd for sure. And dont let either team be doing well by that time....WOW> i think it was a STUPID move to take either team out of the classic.NO ONE will have more excitement than these 2 schools. That SPRITED and HEATED rivalry just goes back TOO far and TOO DEEP.

Permalink Reply by John Brown on March 17, 2013 at 1:20pm They may as well cancel the Turkey Day Classic if Tuskegee aint in it. With Stillman, or whoever else for that matter; it's going to be a snore fest. Tuskegee fan base (reside in Montgomery/Tuskegee area) had a whole lot to do with the attendance and everything it takes to make the game and festivities successful. Let's not forget it's Thanksgiving, a MAJOR holiday. The Tuskegee crowd are in distance to drive home and savage the holiday; where as Stillman and whoever else not, plus they aint accustomed to being away on Thanksgiving which will make attendance low.
They should cancel the TDC and have a regular homecoming date.
Permalink Reply by bamasax4 on March 17, 2013 at 2:47pm Tuskegee will be back. They pull this shat at least once a decade.
Permalink Reply by TruChoppa on March 18, 2013 at 6:03am Everything you stated was true, but TDC must go on. It's homecoming as well as a classic. This aint the first time Tuskegee has pulled out. I felt like Miles would have been a better opponent but.....oh well.
