  • Tonight is the deadline for entries into the All-American BOTB. The lineup will be announced soon thereafter. Thank you to the band directors who have already entered and we look forward to communicating with you over the weekend for final preparations.

  • Bands scheduled to perform in the 2013 All-American BOTB;

    Furr

    Kashmere

    Worthing

    La Marque

    Royal

    Yates

    Hightower

    North Forest

    Sterling (Returning Champion)

Before the High Schools begin, there will be a drumline battle between:

    The Rhodes School vs. Shadydale.

  • Furr? Kashmere? this should be interesting
  • @oldwise2 whats wrong with kashmere? They still in learning. One day when they get thier attitudes together they will be great. They have great players cause the jazz band program is doing very well they just need to play together.
  • i wasn't trying to say anything bad about kashmere....they don't get out much, thats all...Furr was more of a shocker to me cuz someone told me they had canceled...i expected to see what i saw from them, especially knowing the circumstances personally...Furr barely has a feeder for the SCHOOL much less the band. Their football team went to the playoffs with less than 30 players. Holland middle sends more kids to other schools than they send to Furr and they just restarted THEIR band program
  • Well both schools came a long way. I recently transferred to kashmere 2 years ago i came from a 5A school all both schools need is good feeder schools with good music programs and more practice. Overall though i think everyone did great.
  • Neither of that will happen until the kids (aka parents) step up and be involved. But it's not going to happen anytime soon. You can't expect the same results to come from a school where the average 15y/o student has 33 - 38y/o parents. Verses a school where the average 15 y/o student has 47-55 y/o parents.

The political power, education, home ownership, income etc. just isn't there. I explain this every year but no one seems to get it.

  • they messed over furr and kashmere's feeders many moons ago. does key have a band? Holland just started theirs back up. sad too cuz they used to have award winning programs there. In my
day though Hollands band director was a corps Guy and only wanted tutored/magnet/vangaurd kids in the band. very few went to furr. i played trumpet in middle school at revere my 7th grade year and when i went back to Holland for 8th i couldn't be in the band so i did choir. its a self defeating attitude in these parts.

and Chris, my area is not full of those people you mentioned. the politicians are no good. we vote way over 50%. everyone is paying taxes and there are not that many rent houses. and when people are renting its usually family anyway. i see kids around my hood every day comming home from about 10 different high schools. most don't go to furr and very few are in charters...not dumb kids. the 33/38 year old parents ARE the ones who are out there paying for stuff, comming to the games etc...at least in my block and a few others. but how many parents are comming when you have 30 people on you football team?
