Band Discipline

I realize that some bands dont have good discipline.I cant say that my band have good discipline because we dont. And its kind of hard for some schools when they go places and their students acting an ass in front of a lot of people.

  • Correct, I believe that discipline should be enforced and enforced to the extent that is needed. Also, it takes discipline to give discipline(self explanatory).

As for as our band, you're right, we are lacking discipline. We definitely have SOME, but not enough.

    Otherwise, nvm.
  • very true. From what i see, band members have disipline when they feel it is needed. If they are in front of a crowd of people...of course they gonn act like sum jakasses, some want that attention. I just think its all about getting noticed in the wrong ways. and its mainly drumlines that have the ignorence and nondisiplined attitudes. i say since i know most bands have problems practicing becuase of these ignorent people. Go have them run laps while you are teaching or do something to keep them from getting attention. When they realize you can take those moments away from them. They'll striahgten they asses up!

  • I think it out of being in my band for going on 5 years...they the ones who slow people down just to get attention...when rolling in to practice late...which shouldnt be happening in the first place.... they come in making all kinds of noise and then go strihgt to their drum and start banging away....its out of laziness and stupidity and ignornence why some students choose to play the drum...especially in a Show Band...i don't see crazy actions for Corps dlines.

Aint the drumline supposed to keep the band moving forward. Not in one spot? Most Crabs who see what the drumsection does though they play a wind instrument. they notice how they aren;t getting properly disiplined by the director(s) and/or drum majors. Lack Of Disipline is CANCER. as my director would say. One thing "Drumline" got right was that the Drum line should work harder then any other section in the band...musically, physically and mentally!! Its a damn shame drumemrs came leanr a cadence by ear. but put that same thing on paper in front of their eyes...????????? < is the expression you'll get. but really though, they want attention....i say if they want attention, pushups, crunches and/or laps...it'll make em stop.......

  • i feel as tho if yu think yo band or yo section not actin rite, tell dem. nd dnt be a hypocrite nd say otha people not disciplined when yu run around, too. lead by example.
  • A way to fix discipline in the band is the BD needs to get on his job and make an example out of someone or couple of people. Kick them out, sit them on the side, suspend...do whateva to get other band members to see that discipline is not somethin to play around with. When folks see an undisciplined band in public, it causes folks to get a preconceived notion that this band shouldn't get to do anything outside of its home district, which in turn causes you to miss out on opportunities that your band needs to get their name out in the world.
  • discipline should be instilled in everyone affiliated with the band...including staff and groupies.
many big performances can be taken away because a corporation feels that the hired band will act unseemly.
discipline also causes less confusion and is one of the key pillars to having a good band program.
But this doesn't mean that bands can't have fun.
