  • Are you trying to ask "Why do high school drum majors play their instruments, after they march in or finish the feild show, in the stands" ??
  • I think it's good if they do that..
I dont like it when I see DM's that during marching season never pick up their instrument...
then come around during concert season weak as f...
    n STILL complaining bout others.
  • I never saw that on the field. Ive seen them pick up some symbols or compensate fot a missing drummer in the stands. but yea they are still part of the band.
  • in the stands its ok, our drum major does that, and he plays tpet, but on the field ___ NO! lol
  • Warren Easton from n.o. I seen that 1 time....1 of their drum majors was a drum major and cymbal player...so he was in the stands playin cymbals wit his drum major uniform...there's actually a video of it...Ima find it and post it...band sound good though
  • shew at the K, the only time the dm got on a horn is if they're gonna play a t bone solo

our drum major didnt back bend, he walked on the field before he started marching :D
  • Drum Majors should be an extention of your staff. Band Director shouldn't have to conduct bands doing performances unless the peace is real difficult. It use to be unheard of for a drum major to get on a horn, but now the drum major is simply a show piece in some bands. Some have no musicianship what so ever but he can crab his butt of. Being a drum major should be an honor earned.
  • right.. SPEAKING OF THAT ... thats why i HATE the way Our (NO Area) Drum Majors have suddenly found the ability to dance with a stick and Hardly can march on the right foot together ... im talking about them 5dm 5 man front bands ..lol

  • you have a very valid point, but thats not all, our drum major isnt just a show piece he conducts the band during practice, and a lil during performances but about 85% of the time hes playin his horn at performances(in the stands). i can vouch for him and say that he has plenty of musicianship, otherwise he wouldnt get any respect from me, seeing as i was in the runnig to be drum major this year but had to back out becuz there was only 2 of us returning to the trombone section this year
