Plus-Size women on traditional hbcu squads?

6652380677?profile=originalDo y’all think that plus-size women will ever get a fair chance/actually make it on a traditional hbcu dance squad? I’m not saying a separate squad situation like the Honeybees, but on the actual squad? I’m asking because Prarie View Twitter was in a uproar because this girl passed a bill saying that plus-size women should get a fair chance to audition and not be cut after the first round. I’m not sure if this was ever an issue with other squads. The only one I can think of is when 14K and Cookman got sued by a plus-size girl.

The only issue I could think of would be the fact that uniforms are already made. To be exact, I know a hand full of young ladies that have tried out for the Prancing J-settes and did not make it pass body cuts. Some I know that have been cut were because of not being fit but I know some that were even told that they were too SKINNY and that they would not be able to fit into the uniform.

Me personally, I can not see many squad actually having plus sized women on their squad because of the motto and look they abide by. I know on the NCAT Golden Delight website, it says that an ideal Golden delight has to have a "Toned physique/good health & fitness/ stamina". On Bama State Style when Ms.Bridgette described a Stingette as every mans fantasy, she stated that Stingettes have to have a certain look and body type. Its unfortunate but I do not seeing most squads changing things any time soon.

  • I don't see it changing either. Would the plus-size women be able to do the Physical training these HBCUs Dance Teams require? I know the Settes does a lot of running at Bandcamp and during the season. I don't see them making run cuts.

  • I don't agree with having plus-size women on dance teams. Nothing against these lovely women but it just isn't entertaining with the look and size of the teams.

*not trying to be mean but more people would be laughing then being entertained.

  • She should of passed a bill to start their own team. Call themselves Phat Foxes or something. Cause if it were the other way around the the plus size girls wouldn't want the skinny girls on the team if they already have a specific look.

  • It’s more than just the uniforms being already but more so the uniforms being cut or designed in a way to flatter a certain frame. A lot of these teams wardrobe include two piece uniforms and I don’t think that’s flattering at all on a plus size, specifically those white belly fat. I will say though in recent years a lot of these teams have become lenient with body cuts. They are letting girls who are a little thicker in the lower region join their teams.

  • Sigh.... my school. Dance and cheer teams have a standard, all the way up to professional squads. Do the work, whittle down or enjoy from the audience. You know the deal way before even thinking of auditioning. Being physically fit in look and in body is a non-negotiable. The Honey Bees are unique to ASU and Dr. O’s vision. Let them stay there.

  • Plus sized ladies will try out but the sponsors will not pick them for various reasons. I have seen plus size ladies out dance, flip, and split better than some skinny ladies. however, people will prefer the plus size ladies to be flag girls, start heir own group, and march in the band but be featured doing a dance routine for cheers.

  • It depends on what you would consider plus size... Some that is maybe 5’7-59 and a size 6-10 would look bigger than someone that 5’0-5’5 and is a 0-4... Also it depends on the image and culture of the dance teams, currently GG’s and Divas prefer the thicker girls, In the past the Foxes had girls that were bigger than normal
