1. IF for some reason, Maya isn't captain in 2017, then I could easily see one of the '15 crabs as a two year captain
2. IF there are no crabs in 2017 (similar to 2011), then we might see a two year captain down the road...

Yeah, it's somewhere down the road. I had a 2011 situation going on in my head, which isn't the case this year. 2017 crabs, if there are any, aren't theoretically two-year captain potentials, either.
Its hard to tell because past two year captains weren't theoretically supposed to be. And now crab classes dont conplete 4 rips. 2009 and 2010 are the only classes I remember doing it tbh.
Tiana was chosen as a two year but it was her 5th rip and she didn't even finish the season.
Brittany Beal could've had it 3 years but decided after 06 she just didnt want captain at all anymore.
Airee didnt make the team in 08 ruining her chances in being a two year.
DT was a two year because all the 06 crabs were gone after 08. Dawn did 3 rips and the rest did either one or two. Jessica didn't dance in 2010 and Ashton only danced in 07 so she was the only choice both years.
And of course KP because there were no crabs in 2011 and Kayla V and Josie werent on the team anymore.
2 year captains usually occur when there's a year of no crabs or an entire crab class disappears before their 4 rips are up.
I wouldn't necessarily say it's based on that. DT was co-captain in 2008. She went from a crab to co-captain and then a two-year captain. It's obvious someone in the band leadership saw the potential in her.
Also, it was clear Haymer wanted KP when the high school band camp video surfaced. KP was practically running it, even with April in attendance. At that time, Josie and Kayla Vaughn were still on the team, and there wasn't any indication that they weren't trying out for the 2014 season.
Of course, captain choices are who the director and sponsor want as well. Not taling that away from anyone. Im sure DT wouldve gotten it rather Jessica and Ashton danced all 4 and same for KP with Kayla and Josie.
