Stand Battle - input needed!

Hey Yo!

I had a dance/drumline competition a few months back and it included a stand battle. My initial rule was one stand is 10 eight counts. I was caught up in the "bring it" era of stands. The dance teams I deal with are marching band teams and not community teams so they weren't used to having counts that long. So one team was doing long counts, one team was doing 16 counts or more, and one team only did 24 count stands. One of my friends and a person associated with DD4L who saw my clips commented that they would like to see 8 and 16 counts more than the ultra long counts people think are the norm.

I'm planning another event for early 2016. I will have dance teams from high school marching bands. Does anyone have experience with hosting stand battles? I have seen some rules state you have 30 or 60 seconds to do a stand to others saying how many counts each stand should be.

I was thinking of doing 6 teams, 3 v 3 then 1v1 because of timing. Each round of songs will be two 8 counts, two 16 counts, one row by row, and one mirror/reflection count. Another option I thought of was that's stands must be at least 24 counts and no longer than 40.

What do yall think? We are all from different regions and have different take on what a "stand battle" is. I'm looking for different input!

Thanks!
