SWAC's NEW GENERATION

Got a little time on my hands so here goes nothing!....

 

I want to take this time to commend the new generation of swac musicians! I originally joined bandhead...well marchingsport in 2004. It use to be so much trash talking on here that you would be lucky to keep a thread on here. We were so competitive that some people would even get personal..Hatred twords the other band and institution..Heck I even remember some guys would actually make dates to fight in the endzone...I mean it use to go down! So I asked myself what changed?...And I came to the conclusion that the SWAC has taken it to another level by recruiting this new generation of musicians who are doing LESS TALKING & MORE PLAYING!!!!  There are still a few people on here that can tell you about the past years on bandhead as well as the musicianship from past years. For my old heads on here do you agree that the musicianship and playing ability of this new generation of SWAC musicians is really good? A lot of it has to do with there being a lot more REAL music out now too, but really about how they are playing it.  The whole snap music/rap tunes got a little rediculous but all that has changed!! KEEP IT UP!

    I also believe that the gpa's of the the bands have improved as well. I know they have at JSU

    that means they keepin the hood niggas outta the bands around the SWAC lol.. playing wise things are lookin up though.. I thought it was headed the other way for a while..

    2011 i can say swac wise there arent any terrible clips of bands. They simply letting the music talk.

    i dnt know about it being more real music out now..i would've thought it was the other way around...i think swac musicians are more balanced today because their have been new playing styles implemented along with the old ones..you can say the samething about todays athletes....also we hav a bigger variety of music 2 choose from so its easier to entertain our crowds today..although bands back then had more time to entertain their crowds.....and i dnt think any hood niggas attend any colleges..you leave the hood in the hood before u step on campus...it was definitely a different breed tho...but i think swac band memebers had more pride back then because they had to go through a whole lot more to be apart of their programs if u kno wut i mean....

    Trust me, They do. Now whether they finish or not is a totally different situation

    Yea I know when Bama State had the open door policy there was definitly some hood folks in the band. I'm with my cb on this one I crabbed in 2004, and the 2011 bama state band would mop the floor with us just keeping it real. And imo the music has gotten beter from mid 2000's to this new decade. The pop tunes the new soul music and the kanye west style of rap producing has added a lot of substance. Still not as substanitive as the 80's to mid 90's and no where near the 60's but still moving in a good direction.

    seems the ones who start the bs are the ones who graduated lol .and i can name a few hood bands lol.

    Soundwise, these bands are pretty good.  But as far as creativity during halftime shows go, I think it's at an all time low.  Bands today are performing like they done ran out of ideas.  You can only recycle so much for so long.  Time to step out of the box and do some crap (yeah CRAP) that's out of the ordinary.
