This saddens me....

The Texas Education Agency ordered on Tuesday the North Forest Independent School District to close.

The district was told to shut its doors in July 2012.

The agency said that when it releases its school rating on Aug. 1, the district will be rated as academically unacceptable for the third year in a row.

Agency officials said the school district's accreditation status will be non accredited-revoked for the 2011-2012 year.

"While it saddens me to take this action, given the expectations of state law and my concern for the long-term education of student served by North Forest ISD, I am compelled to move forward with this process," Commissioner of Education Robert Scott wrote in a letter to North Forest ISD.

The state said the Houston Independent School District will annex North Forest ISD and take over its 7,500 students.

North Forest ISD has one high school, two middle schools, six elementary schools, a learning academy and prep school.

  • THANK GOD

Boo-hoo but everyone knew (or should have known) it was coming... My first job in Houston was at IAH and I supervised some NFISD graduates and let me tell you buddy, those were some dumb mutha***!

    Plus...

NFISD's tax base cant even pay the utility bills. This is a HUGE plus for the students of NFISD.

When HISD takes over they will FIRE! every teacher there.

Class of 2013 will be VERY small

    • "...and let me tell you buddy, those were some dumb mutha***!" Dang! Lmao

    • well if NFISD's tax base can't pay the bills then HISD's Tax base, when they take over, won't be able to do it either. The East/ North eastern part of HISD is already looking real bad. You really think people are happy to be in HISD? Alot of those kids left HISD to BE in North Forest. And where are they gonna go? Kashmere? (undercrowded) Sam Houston? (overcrowded) Are the people in Furr's zoning area who have historically went to NFISD gonna go back to Furr? Are they gonna consolidate some of the teachers into HISD (all of the can't be bad)?

I see a mass exodus to Sheldon and Humble...possibly Aldine

      • HISD wont have too... Ill bet my bottom dollar anything NFISD will be auctioned off or torn down in the coming years.

And an exodus? lol, if parents would have been concerned about their kids from early on this would have never happend. If any parent boycotts sending their children to HISD schools by NOT sending them, then they need to be slapped with a wet belt.

        Sheldon... Maybe

        Aldine... HA!

        Humble...

But I really feel for the teachers because they're constantly being faulted for things that should be happening at home from the day the Dr spanked the little brats. The problems are going no where until someone can beat some sense in to the heads of the parents.

        • What I was saying is that there are whole neighborhoods of kids that have always gone to NFISD schools that were in HISD zoning. The numbers may have decreased over the years but they still there. My thing is where is the zoning gonna wind up when HISD absorbs them because you have 3 troubled campuses on that side of town that are fake 4a's pushing 3a attendance. They don't have to keep NF open even if it switches to HISD.

And band wise..... :-( Kashemere hasnt done anything for years and Furr is 'just doing it because people bitched about them not having one' I would be surprised if they have the same director they had last year. Wheatley is the best out of those schools and they tiny (but ok)

  • i had a feeling this was coming..

  • I am graduate of North Forest (M.B. Smiley High School class of 1996) and my feelings are mixed.  Theyre mixed because I remember when North Forest was a prime place for education.  Back in the 1990s Smiley was one of the largest schools in Houston while Forest Brook was academically something to deal with.  One thing I always liked was that North Forest always valued Fine Arts.  My 12th grade year, almost every campus had band including the elementary schools.  In turn Smiley and forest Brook both average 70 freshmen per year.  Also in turn, the entire school and community had a common appreciation for the school and pride in self.  We always had teachers who gave a dam and I think a lot of those teachers still work there. Now North Forest is losing the political game due to administration who fight only for themselves.

To band directors in North Forest, you guys are in my prayers.  I know you are all serious work-horses and you do it because you care.  I hope something good comes out of this situation.

BTW Chris-Pinnacle of Humanity.  All North Forest people are dumb as shid. Crazy and unstable- yes.... Characters--yes..but not dumb.... LMAO Im dead serious though

    • Well... I'll say they didnt know what the average HS Diploma recipient should know.

I guess I shouldve been blaming the teachers.

      • Naw try blaming the adults who sit a bash a school district instead of putting an effort into helping the dumba** mf's u claim the children/students to be. If u want to place a blame somewhere plan the people working at the top because you can only work with what your given as a student in school. North Forest needs to stay as North Forest and stop trying to be like other school districts.
        • North Forest is a prime reason many State colleges were forced to stop denying admission to students based on SAT/ACT scores and instead allow automatic admission based on a students class ranking.

Well you have a 4.0 student, 1st in class from NFHS going to A&M who scored a 15 on the ACT

          vs

          a 2.5, lower 50% student from _______ who scored a 23 on the ACT

Both attend A&M and guess who drop out because they cant even pass remidial math?

_______________ (whoever you want to blame) keeps allowing this to happen. North Forest doesnt have to be like any other districts, but if they want to stand out for something other then failing.... They should educate their district. Parents shouldve been pissed long ago, its too late to expect pity.
