To make band an "actual sport"

I do believe that band is a sport, however to other's the reason most don't believe that it is because, their no score bored or no way to take score. So what rules should be put in place, and how should bands be scored to make it a sport to other's without an musical ear.

  • Most of the events bands perform in. There will not be a score. But take a look at Marching Comps, Parades and stuff like that. There is a score. We are judged based off how well we perform then we get a score. We work for those high scores like teams in NFL and NBA work hard to get more points to win. Same concept in those competitons. Though not everything we do is scored so it kinda cancels out.

Plus this question was asked like last week...it pops up every month or so lol. But to us, it should be a sport whether it is show or corps(what cancels out our belief) and school boards and people who do not know what bands go through to get there believe it should not be a sport because they do not whitness what we do.

Though my high school principal came into the bandhall a few days ago after our Christmas Concert. He is right now, the only admin that has walked into the bandhall and gave us a thumbs up for our hard work. Teachers tell us individually but he was the first to come to the bandhall and tell us personally instead of an email. So i guess what I am trying to say, get the attention from your school board or from the community to get props on success then try to fight that battle.

  • No score?????? Have you ever heard of a superior?
