To My Young Purple Knight Brothers

We took one on the chin fellas, but it's ok. Give props were they are due, and keep moving. Walker did a great job. I'm sure if the video recorder were in front of St. Aug's brass section the sound would have been much better, but that wasn't the case. So all we (internet viewers) have to go by is what's posted on this site--regardless of how unfair the post is. I've never been a big fan of concert formation, because I always felt that it was a copout to cover up a band's weaknesses. For instance, most N.O. bands have weak trumpet sections. But those weak trumpet sections sound much stronger when in concert formation, because they are usually in front of the rest of the brass. However, in block formation those same trumpets are usually non-existent. But yesterday, after the video was posted, I saw the advantage of being in concert formation. While St. Aug was turned to the side in it's traditional block formation, there wasn't enough room between the bands to catch the full effect of The Aug. While Walker, on the other hand, was heard loud and clear. My point is in today's style of parade battling concert formation is necessary. I know it's hard to hear people say Walker won, especially when you feel that you are the overall better band (originality, stands, fieldshows, marching, parades, concert, etc.). But let'em talk. Look at it as a lesson learned, and just handle your business in concert formation next time you all meet.

  • This video proves my point, because IMO this St. Aug band is much stronger than that St. Aug band. Thanks for posting that.
