10. Listen intently to his instructions. Do exactly the opposite. Insist that that was what he said to begin with.

9. Empty spit exactly in the spot where he steps down from the podium. Get the entire brass section to do this. Often.

8. Harass the cheerleaders. Blame the comments on the drum major.

7. Invent your own tempo. Stick to your guns, no matter how big his beats are or how much he glares at you.

6. "Confess" to your band director that you just can't follow such bad conducting and obscured beats.

5. Drop vital instrument parts during drill (this includes bells, mouthpieces, foot joints, slides, etc.).

4. Wait until he's just finished an hour of basics reviewing. "Forget" to step off on your left foot. Repeatedly.

3. Whenever you see him trying to find his tempo, immediately start singing, playing, or tapping your foot loudly and out of tempo. Annoyingly infectious songs or songs in a completely different meter are especially effective.

2. Wait until the busses have left before looking surprised and announcing loudly, "No one told us to take our uniforms off the bus, too!" or "You mean they aren't coming back to unload the instruments?!" These actions are best performed by at least three people for maximum chaos.

1. In your sweetest and most respectful voice, ask him, "As God, why can't you make our team win a game?" Look serious. Expect an answer. Wait for one.

Wait!!! We have serious conversations on here?

LOL....

But seriousness...no really... We don't need to be giving these youths anymore bad ideas. They are already jacked up in the head enough as it is. They read this stuff. They won't take the good advice...but will soak this kind of stuff up like a sponge for some reason.

Some folks take jokes too seriously...that's fine. Some folks take these jokes literally and run with it. Those are the folks you need to watch out for.

A word to the wise...
I thought the purpose of this post was to pick on GSU....

lol...

Hilarious post by the way. I think humor is an important factor in a program
I think I get where you coming from Jerren, but I think it just takes (or atleast it should only take) one time for someone to be made an example of... That's the key set the tone at the beginning just like in a song and watch your program immulate who you are as a leader...
exactly im just saying why take the time out to make a post like this.. that some many youngster and even older people would take literally and do this b.s. but yeah it takes one person the first person who takes this literal and get made an example out of for it to be dealt with.. but then i know how they think they're youngins gon be like but if we all do it as a mass its more funny etc.. then you got mass numbers being punished this takes away valuable time opunishing when if everybody acts right and do what they posed to do all that time could be spent enhancing the band learning and perfecting new songs/drills all the above dig.. the fall season already aint long enough in time to get the band as a full organized unit.. for the first game being as strong as the last you know.. its just like posts like this IMO are a waste of literary resources but still i cant control it but i can voice my opinion and guns up for all the people think im too serious that have nothing better to do with their time but post waste of space threads like these that wasnt directed to any 1 band directed to any one in A band ....SMH

Naw 4 real tho thats some lame arse isht that Ive seen develop in the Marching 100 in recent years. When I was in the 100, we had drum majors you could respect like Antonio C Drayton who looked like he could play RB for the Falcons....

Now, I can see why yall dont respect the DM's no more. I see too many DM's that dont merit respect or dont carry themselves in like manner.

But, in the spirit of fun, I would say the most effective way to piss off any DM, specially' a FAMU DM, while the band in on break or eating out in public or on the road, or if the band is at a rest stop in East Bubbafunk New Jersey, you take his mace and run wit dat ho3! Too funny. Or if ur on the bus, steal his spats and flush em down the drain (LMAO)...we did that to the DM on our bus my freshman year. Served him right for thinkin he was the stuff (damn I miss Byron....hubba Byron...)

But if the band is at attention or actions are going, its downright lame to pull all that other stuff. It wastes time, keeps the band in practice LONG past than what it needs to be, and is just plain LAME.

That is all.
The funny thing, is if one of these dudes pulled what buddy wrote on his list off for real, and he gets dealt wit ( at least how WE dealt wit foolishness in my era.........lol hehehehe.....) he'd be the first to holla to Doc about "hazing" and this that and the third and have his dang on momma call up there and bring all sorts of legal bs in to the matter.

And next year b the main one tryin to beat someone....smh.

What ever happened to bands being focused on music?
Wait...I know a crab wouldn't dare DREAM of doing that crap. The neos and oldheads may try these stunts. If you beat THEIR tails, then could you say that it is hazing, since they've already paid their dues and completed their rite of passage?

Anyway, there is a time and a place for everything. And for some reason it just seemed as if everything on that list would be done at the WRONG time. And then don't let the DM be a passive one...there would be chaos in the bandhall. If you give some of these people an inch, they'll try to take a mile...and mess up "funtime" for everyone...causing the morale of the band to fall.

I could see the snowball effect already...lol

hahahaha this Sh!t is funny, but damm "some" are taking this to the next level and getting pissed.wow no kind of sense of humor for them huh? hahaha but yea this is funny they should put this on a T-Shirt or something
you forgot an honorable mention...
be right more often than the DM
about the performance songs,
dances,
and always point them out... loudly...

shame to say but to quote a certain person I know..

"just don't have the fire no more"

ya'll can all say what you want about this post causing downfalls in some bands..
but the truth is up there in that quote..

it's good to loosen up n poke fun at stuff sometimes..
Ok...for those who were offended by my discussion post, GET OUT YOUR FEELINGS. Heck, Drink A Coke & Smile. This is just a humorous topic that many band heads can get a laugh at instead of bashing each others program apart through the serious debates that are posted weekly. Now in reality at any HBCU institution with a marching unit, we all know nothing described in the joke will occur in within that program due to the strict concentration demanded by the BD and the discipline to upkeep the program's reputation. Besides, all of us know that if one jokes around, his or her financial aid will not be found.
WOW. Couldn't have been under my leadership. Stuff like that would have got a foot up somebody @s$. quick. Drum major and band i look at like organized crime (in a way). Its all about respect. If somebody disrespect you, you have to deal with them in the most DRASTIC way possible. Otherwise if you let it slide, the whole band will try you. that stuff would have definately ended up in a fight after practice.
Pretty much!

Leave that BS for after practice...or anytime OTHER than practice.

Though some of that list IS funny, these could be some of the main reasons why bands are falling off. ANY focus on BS while at practice is TOO MUCH focus on BS while at practice...and folks simply focus too much on the BS. Thinking of ways to annoy your drum major? WHY?! I mean really, how childish is that? Are we THAT bored in practice these days?

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against a list being posted on here, just to lighten the mood on the boards.

My problem comes when CHILDREN actually do the crap on that list and become a distraction to the rehearsal...then mess around and let it carry over into an actual performance.
