I've been viewing a lot of clips of various high school drum sections, mainly in Houston, and I often come across sections that lack the concept of uniformity. That's one major thing I drill into the drum section where I teach. If it doesnt look alike and in sync, then I dont wanna see it or hear it.

Looking presentable is one of the major stigmas that "The Powers That Be" hold against us minority bandsmen. So here are some tips:

Practice in mirrors/reflective glass to ensure that the playing style is identical.
Make sure everyone has the same material (i.e. Wristbands, headbands, gloves, stick color)
Drum height must look the same across the line
Cymbals should always be shined.... even at practice! No Zildjian or Sabian pennies. Lol

If you have other suggestions, shoot your comments!

These r all good points and I would luv 2 c your line (lil lee) do all of the above. Lol. Also let's hear sumthing new. If I wanted to hear tsu I would go to tsu or pv etc....! But let's c what you can come up wit. If not let da Choppaz do it for ya !(but not you lil lee. We seen what u can do and people want 1st not 5th lol.) But all good points. Can't wait 2 c what's out there this year good luck 2 all. Cushion

I understand your point, Chris... My main reason for creating this thread was to show that percussionist can discuss meaningful, substantive topics.... This certaintly applies to the full band as well. Lol

Im curious to know, what drum sections have you been watching?????

This is a key part in the quality of a percussion section and is one reason why all-star sections normally don't look as good as individual high schools. So "Blazin20s" have you seen Townview's section and if so, what are your comments on this particular subject?

I dont wanna get into naming individual schools, because I know how easily offensive people take things. I'm not looking to bash on anyone.

Townview uses their size to their advantage. And they have a respectable snareline. Only thing thats missing is cymbals. The cymbals are together, but I can tell that their material is rather limited.

I was told that at any time, someone should be able to snap a picture of a snare line (or whatever part of the section you want to see) and the picture should show identical looking drummers (stick height, form, etc.)
