Using influence to leave traditon

When does tradition become irrelevant? Since moving from San Antonio I'm one of few alumni that returns to my alma mater. Many of us have discussed our displeasure with the fact that the current band director who is also an alum is throwing tradition to the wind for the famu style. While I am not opposed to the idea, I would however like to see the incorparation of the band programs traditions upheld. I also know that all traditions are not meant to be kept ie hazing(which I am glad he has removed) but as for the book that we had dating back to the late 90's that I am aware of. Many of us would like to see that incorparated back into the program. As a recent music education major graduate I can appriciate the concept of teaching musicianship but not when you down play and disrespect a previous director who had that program in a position that your band as a student nor your band as a director has reach which is gianing ratings of superiour at UIL. Many students have left the band and transferred to other schools because the band is merely as shell of what it used to be. Most students will not goto famu. Most go to PV or TXSU, so a few of us alumni feel it would be agood idea to incorparate practices and repetiore from those programs as well as famu. How do the alumni reach out to the current director to get some of the tradition reenstated back in to the program?
