While getting ready to practice I just thought, I wonder how many people got private lessons in high school, if so do you feel it prepared you for collegiate music and performance level?

As for me I can say it has gotten me so far ahead of most of my peers, not being cocky or nothing but it did. And I also have had the priviledge of studying with one of the best euphonium/tuba teachers in the U.S. which I am so thankful for. I just want to encourage those who are not and plan on teaching music to lessons with someone who can teach you, not just anyone tho.

  • i took private lessons first before i even joined a band where for most people it was there first time touching an instrument, they really help. sumtimes yu jux need sumbody to work with yu individually to help yu. bd nd section leaders cnt always do dat.
  • private lessons before and during high school...at that time everyone took lessons. (talking bout the 60's and 70's)
it only helped with some things not all. I could read/play a fly on the music...but theory and arranging were not on the menu - and I really needed them to be. when I got to sdsu (pwc), the white kids had the jump on me because they had gone through a year of theory/arranging, and orchestration in high school!
