I think Murray is rebuilding a program that has been on a downward spiral nicely his first marching band season at Alcorn.  Murray is making the program relevant again. Admittedly he wasn't my first choice as band director for my alma matter, but he has my support and I wanted him to do well. The SOD are showing improvement and the future can be bright if they continue to build on the positives of this season. I think in a couple of years the SOD can fully be a problem again in the SWAC. Murray seems to be  a good leader, motivator and tough on discipline after watching my fomer band this year compared to the last few years. My bit of critic is he needs a strong assistant director who can arrange for the band and hopefully they find that in their search for a assistant director. Rome wasn't built in a day so I'm riding for Dr. Murray and he will have my support for the band program financially and otherwise.

  • He def brought some MUCH needed fye back to the purple and gold band! Look forward to things to come. I remember not too long ago when SU, JSU, and Alcorn where the top three swac bands. Alcorn's been missing for a while. Glad to see them progressing! Keep doing your thang Dr Murray! Alcorn is a great fit for your career right now!

  • I actually think he has improved the program.

  • He had a great year.  Now he will work on his staff now.  They are standing tall and looking good......

  • SOD is very entertaining and I admire their sound. In due time they will become a beast as many programs who suffered misery in the past

  • they're still alcorn...take that how you like....

  • I've already said in another thread that this was one of the better sounding Alcorn bands I've heard in a LONG time. They have definitely come up since last year and look like they are heading in the right direction. The sound really surprised me though. I am actually looking forward to the CCC next year.

  • I think the alum is going in the right direction.....from previous talks, Murray was basically playing with the cards he was delt with this year.....getting a feel of things basically.....but with the right recruitment, 2 good assistants a good writer and some discipline and pride I think our program will go back to what it use to be......

Alot of people know its some rebellion against Murray but I think Dr. Brown made the right choice.....Every director will not be strong in both areas of music writing or drill writing.....So he needs to build him a dream team and get it rolling.... From what I hear hes in the process of moving in that direction and there will be changes come next year..... And like my alum said "Rome wasn't built in a day" some of yall outsiders and even the alums that gets on here and bash him under secret names give him a chance.....CCC or Soul Bowl whether its in Jackson or on the Reservation I think its going to be a good match like Jarred said......See yall at the match up in 2012

  • i think doc did a fine job this yr..and to piggyback of we Fantastic4asu said, murray jus had play the cards he was delt...but the biggest problems with alcorn has always been lack of a staff and lack of real discipline.,...if he can correctly address those two issues u will see a 180 degree turn and a totally new SOD...i dnt kno if its this yr or nxt yr but i know its about time 4 us to get some new unis(Thank GOD) so hopfully nxt we will hav a new look to go along with the new and improved sound!!

  • I think if not for 2012/ it will be 2013 but we got those current ones in 03....

And you know why Alcorn has always had staffing issues.....lol (insider)

Your thoughts on Dr. Murray's first season as the Band Director at Alcorn

  • He did very well. Once they started tapping into his leadership....seems like they got better from there. We had them game one...and I knew then, they were gonna only get better from there.
