BEWARE OF FULL SCHOLARSHIP OFFERS.."Scholarship Fraud is REAL!"

Langston University doesnt offer FULL SCHOLARSHIPS.,We offer tuition fee waivers and partial scholarships for QUALIFIED musicians. In fact there aren' t too many HBCU colleges that offer "FULL RIDE" scholarships and is often a line they tell yo get numbers and students. Not "hatin" just keepin it real. If you were a victim of "scholarship fraud"  try Langston University in Oklahoma. Competitive scholarships and tuition waivers available for interested and qualified members. We have the lowest tuition rate in our region and "you get your money"

Audition Information

SATIN DOLLS

Standards and Policies

  • All squad members must maintain full-time status (must be enrolled for a minimum of 12 hours for both spring and fall semesters).
  •  All squad members must maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA.
  • Any squad member who falls below the required GPA and/or the 12-hour student status will be removed from the team.
  • Squad members that display an attitude and behavior that is perceived by the Band Director to be detrimental to the unit will be removed. These actions include disrespect shown to the captain/coach, multiple absences from rehearsal, and total disregard to authority.

The Satin Dolls consists of no more than 15 members. Dancers perform at all parades, football and home basketball games, and any other activities that the Marching Band performs at.

 Image and Attitude

As a member of the Mississippi Valley State University Auxiliary unit you are a representative of the university. Therefore, it is imperative that you conduct yourself in an appropriate manner at all times. This includes maintaining an enthusiastic attitude and projecting a positive image.

As a representative of Mississippi Valley State University, you are to follow the student code of conduct regulations that are outlined in the MVSU student handbook.

Satin Dolls must be properly attired for all performances. This includes basic elements such as earrings, makeup, and hairstyle. Loud and unusual hairstyles are not permissible for performances.

 Audition Process

The Satin Dolls audition process is not an instructive process. It is an elimination process. The band staff therefore is not obligated to train or instruct unsuccessful prospective Satin Dolls. All decisions are final. The process is designed to expeditiously select the best dance line all prospective candidates as measured by the Interview Component, Stage Presence Component, Agility Test/Dance Component and the Group Dance Component of the audition process outlined below.

Interview Component

The purpose of the Interview Component is to determine the suitability of prospective Satin Dolls concerning anything in their backgrounds or moral turpitude that may reflect negatively on the University, Band, and Satin Dolls. Please dress in appropriate business attire.

*Prospective Satin Dolls failing the Interview Component will not be allowed to proceed to the Stage Presence Component.

Stage Presence Component

The Stage Presence Component consists of the following factors:

            Poise and Grace

            Posture

Attention/Command Position-the ability to stand at attention in a commanding manner, which includes, alignment and erectness of the body, the chin up, shoulders back, head up, while maintaining a pleasant smile.

Walk-judges will evaluate the fluidity and smoothness of the stride, military bearing (dignified manner), and the erectness of the body.

General Physical Fitness-physical fitness will be determined by visual observation and fact validity. It cannot be overly emphasized that prospective Satin Dolls must be physically fit and look physically fit as determined by the judges.

*Prospective Satin Dolls failing the Stage Presence component will not be allowed to proceed to the Agility Test/Dance Component.

Agility Test

The agility test determines the prospective Satin Dolls’ ability to execute skill movements required in Satin Dolls dance routines. The skill movements include:

            Left Split

            Right Split

            Forward Roll

            Backward roll

            Left Kick

            Right Kick

            Round Off

            Cartwheel

            Toe Touch

            Back Bend

Dance Routine

The purpose of the dance routine is to determine if the prospective Satin Doll has a sense of rhythm, time and coordination with music. Also, the prospective Satin Doll is evaluated to the extent in which they incorporate the required skill movements within their dance routine.

*Prospective Satin dolls failing the Agility Test/Dance Component will not be allowed to proceed to the Group Dance Component.

Group Dance Component

The group dance determines the prospective Satin Dolls’ ability to execute a fundamental Satin Dolls dance routine within the dynamics of a group. All prospective Satin Dolls will be required to perform the same dance routine. They are given 4 hours of instruction the day prior to the final audition. Depending on the number of prospective Satin dolls, they will be required to perform the group dance routine in groups of threes. The prospective Satin Dolls will be given 3 opportunities to pass the final audition. The judges will employ a dichotomous scale (pass or fail) to determine whether the prospective Satin Doll passes or fails the audition. During the first round, all judges must be in concordance that the prospective Satin Doll passed the audition. During the second round, the prospective Satin Doll cannot receive more than one dissenting vote. During the third round, the prospective Satin Doll can pass the audition with two dissenting votes from the judges.
