from a objective and EDUCATED point of view. there are certainly things that are clear in the first segment of video
SU defintely plays with more power and intensity (but thats what they do) in this generation of "band fans" it seems that all that matters is POWER. so naturally most musical novices will say it was a landslide victory on SU's part. My problem with SU is that everything they play sounds the same. There is NO Contrast. There is LOUD and Soft and stop. there is nothing inbetween. only "BEAST-MODE" then "WE CHILLIN" then "BEAST-MODE" again. I would love to hear SU play a ballad without blowing laquer off the horn where we TRUE musicians can give props and say "wow they really sounded nice" instead of saying "well there goes SU performing surgery with a chainsaw" SU there are many people who ride your jock and worship you religiously
however don't be so high on yourself to not think that you have an aura of invinciblity.

Now on to GSU

Grambling WILL NEVER out power SU because GSU's style is not not one of a "POWER" band but more about musical techicality and quality of sound. Now, GSU did play with a better quality of sound than SU (better balance, articualtion, and control) But these days most morons will say whomever was loudest was the winner.
My problem with GSU is that SOME of the arrangements that they play make the ensemble sound a bit immature. They lack a Collegiate sound on some of their songs and it makes the band sound like they cant play when i reality they are good players only playing what has been placed in front of them on the stand.
I admire GSU for not trying to get too cought up in this POWER struggle that is the SWAC now and trying to hold on to Prof Hutch's vision.while still striving to move forward in modern times. HOWEVER, This band must learn to get some UMPH behind themselves when they play to try and keep the Tweakers (power junkies) interested enough to give you props without compromising your heritage or tradition.

Now I do realize that there some (most) people who will dog out GSU no matter how good they sound or how much they improve and those people sre the ones that just need to be ignored. however, don't let your skin get so thick that you don't see that some of the critisim is not "just hatin' on the G"

now thats my $18.98 worth

It just amazes me how much ignorance contaminates this site when it comes to the subject of Southern and Grambling
