A Message from Southern's Band Director

To my band heads, band fans and band lovers:

Competition is healthy and I am a very competitive person.. I get it, but what I don't understand with HBCU Bands is why hate, degrade and put down other bands only because it is not your own. This "self hatred" isn't doing anything but diminishing our own craft. Yes, I am competitive, confident, and sometimes arrogant but I have much respect for others who blazed the trail for me such as Isaac Greggs, Ludwig Freeman, William Davis, Harold Haughton, Dowell Taylor, Conrad Hutchinson, Ben Butler, William P. Foster, Julian White, Lewis Liddell, Larry Pannell, Thomas Llye, George Edwards, Barney Smart, Samuel Griffin....just to name a few. You guys have to get over the "putting others down to lift yourself up" syndrome. I refuse to stoop to that level....while you're hating, band directors with my mentality are grinding. Let's bring back the days when band directors respected each other. Once we do that as directors, our students will follow our paths!

  • Haymer Crying.. by trumpfunk

  • That was funny.....lol
  • Come on, the guy is being an ass towards Haymer
  • If I was the band member behind Haymer I would've knocked the camera out that jerk's hand. Dude was trolling like a female, sounding like a horse needing a bottle of Nyquil.

  • that was funny lol

  • This site is suppose to be for entertainment purposes but so many use the site to bash, criticize, and degrade others, I was just criticized for finding something good in Tx SU Motion performance from the Labor Day Classic when  I was met with a lot of immature and hateful responseS, I find a lot of hateful, miserable, unhappy and lonely people leaving degrading messages to a lot of these dance teams rather than finding something good in them but that just shows the level of maturity that we're dealing with on this site and they defend it by saying they're keeping it real, then you have the other lonely ones co-signing on what they say, it's easy to sit back, hide behind a keyboard and bash others who are doing what they enjoy, a lot of them are just miserable people who use their time and energy to stalk these band members and dance lines, they secretly wish they were out there performing but instead they use their insecurities to degrade the performance of others, this site can be so toxic and most of the negativity only comes from fans of the SWAC. Leave these band members and dance lines alone and let them do what they do best, after all no one forces you to like anything, if you can't be positive then at least keep your dam mouth shut.
