Beaumont Central Marching Band & Director Under Fire

Beaumont Independent School District administrators Monday met with the band directors and administration of Central High School to discuss a controversial halftime performance Saturday night by Central Medical Magnet High School's marching band.

The performance featured students dressed as President Obama, Governor Romney, and Big Bird from the popular children's television show Sesame Street.
Most high school football halftime shows feature a simple performance from a marching band. But some say Central High School's band may have gone too far Saturday night when they had a student dressed as Big Bird pretend to knock out a student wearing a Mitt Romney mask, and that has some school board members concerned.
School officials reviewed a video of the show during Monday's meeting to examine its appropriateness.
Following the meeting, the district issued a statement.

How can they turn a skit into something so serious. It was all in fun and creative. Some American's are so evil. What are your thoughts about the situation?

  • Lol smh this situation really shouldn't be tooken seriously  people in the stands probably laughed it off its kids

  • See white and black people look at things very different and some dont realize it in all this time. It was all in fun, i know i enjoyed their show in Baton Rouge.

  • Wow

  • bruh we did fema mocks after katrina at the school i was director at and also did a michael jackson skit with a lil child during his trial. idk everybody trying to be so politically correct its almost too much

  • Yeah its crazy. Texas Republicans are just salty, plain and simple.

  • Only in Texas!

  • Im not saying the BD's should be fired because shouldnt...but they shouldve thought that out before they did it...it was a diss to Mitt Romeny and you cant assume that everybody at the school or in the band supports Obama....And we as black people tend to think that Oh hes black so he must support everybody has different political views so you cant just do something like that....Notice College bands always say VOTE...they dont encourage who you vote for but they just say vote....why ? because people have different political views....We can defend it all we want...but they shouldve thought that out some more....I Just Hope and Pray they dont get fired...

  • This is freedom of expression. If anyone at Central was offended they would have mentioned that two months ago.

This is an attack on our first Amendment rights.
  • I agree. Religion and politics are just 2 of the most sensitive issues to discuss in public sectors, such as schools, church (far as politics),etc. And you CANNOT assume that everyone is supporting who you support.

And I honestly dont think we should be supporting this action, because truth be told, if a white school did the same thing towards OBAMA, then we would always be saying how wrong they were, and that we didnt like it.

Politics is such an emotional, hot bed issue that it is better for organizations to keep their individual/collective political preferences to themselves.

And FYI: From what I understand, it was some of the PARENTS/GROWN UPS that was actually THERE at the game supporting those black football and band students that raised the question of whether that was appropriate or not.

Yall act like the media is responsible for bringing this about. lol. NO, this was BLACK PEOPLE who were concerned that THAT action was enabling a DIVIDE (if you will) among those young children.

Just think about it....having this VERY YOUNG students to perform a skit that is geared toward the hate/dislike for a white presidential candidate .(I KNOW THAT HIS RACE WASNT THE INTENTION...BUT THAT IS THE CIRCUMSTANCES). grown people in college bands dont even do that, so it is alarming that these very young students were allowed to do this..

Do they have a right to do the skit? OF COURSE! Is there going to be a major backlash over it? Hell YES! Was it smart to do in front of a crowd who probably isnt 100% democrat, or BLACK? NO.

keep in mind...texas is a REPLUBLICAN state, where BLACK REPUBLICANS are much more prevalant.
