BITING AKA STEALING SONGS

NOW HOW CAN ANOTHER BAND BITE OR STEAL A SONG IF ITS NOT A BAND SIGNATURE SONG EXAMPLE

TXSU- played m4 at uapb and pv genesis fanfare too ( now thats 2 bands signature song am i right?) but the minute PV played '' careless whispers'' here come txsu ppl saying PV biting off them and got that idea from them 5 years later??

OR ANOTHER GSU PLAYING LOVE BALLED UAPB SAID GSU TOOK BUT GSU HAVE PLAYED IT BEFORE BUT DUE TO UAPB WAS KNOWN TO PLAY IT THATS HOW MOST PPL WILL TAKE IT.

NOW TXSU THIS IS NOT ABOUT YALL ITS IN GENERAL BUT I WAS USING THAT AS A GOOD EXAMPLE NOT PUSHING OR REACHING TOWARD TXSU AT ALL CUZ YALL ARE A SWAC TOP 5 BAND.

  • There are some songs that bands are traditionally KNOWN FOR playing, even though they don't have exclusive rights to them.  As for TxSU and "Careless Whisper", I knew they played it before.  But I had no idea that it was a traditional arrangement of theirs.  But you can fault me for not really caring about the Ocean enough to bother finding out.

As for songs that a band just happens to play one year and be done with it, those are up for grabs...and if a people say that another band is biting because they played a song that nobody is really known for, then those people are talking just to hear themselves speak.

My problem comes however, when another band plays another band's trademark tune then has the nerve to say that it is superior to the band they got it from.  I hate that!

I won't expect bands to redo songs like:

    Get Ready

    Entertainment Tonight

    We Came to Play

    Torture

    Swamp

Those songs are well known songs that have been played by certain exclusive bands.  I don't even have to put the name of the schools that play these songs, because those schools are THAT well known to play those songs.  If other schools were to play those songs, then I would say that they were biting.

  •  get ready MANY BANDS have played it too in the 80's and 90's and for torture i can name many bands who still play that its a good ass song. whats wrong with bands bringing back songs and ppl sying it wsa stolen

  • I KNOW IF AAMU WAS TO BRING BACK THAT BOOK FROM THE 90'S BOI OH BOI OH BOI AND ALCORN IF YOU WATCH THEM IN THE 90'S EARLY 2000'S THEY HAD A HUGE BOOK NOW ITS LIKE WHAT EVER WHO EVER PLAY THEY PLAY

  • Tony I want you to break your caps lock button lol

  • i heard many ppl say SU took txsu tuba part for down bottom if listen to past clips of SU PLAYING down bottom compared to txsu

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4_lYOCo7X4&feature=results_vide... ( 06)

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=piutnKT75QQ&feature=related ( 07 battle)

but both killed it doe if txsu had more tpets that yr omg

  • This has been a heated discussion amongst myself and some of my fellow bandsmen and here are the two sides:

one will say: "Band A is known for playing Song A. If we have never played it, why should we start playing it now?"

another side will say: "Its just a song. If you use this excuse, NO BAND WOULD PLAY ANY SONG!!"

Now, personally, I understand both sides, but i side with the first one more than anything. Of course you will have your seasonal songs, such as Marvin Gaye & Chardonnay, Party, etc. for this season.... and of course you are gonna have times where you mock the other band, like JSU playin Second Line against SU, or TxSU playing M4 back in 2004 against UAPB or Genesis in 05 against PV. Thats completely understandable AND adds a bit of fire to the battle.

    BUT

If Band A wants to start playing something such as a SIGNATURE song, i DO NOT agree with that....songs like S.O.S., Nobody Does it Better, Say La La, Genesis, 20th Century Fanfare, etc....songs that basically have ANOTHER bands signature stamp on it, in today's technologically driven world its gonna get out really fast and be considered jockin. If a band played a song one year, and 5 years later somebody else wants to play it, i see no problem with it, as long as it ain't the same version, and SOME bands are known for doing that.....

I like how Bama State played "I got 5 on it" this year, but their version was unique enough to where nobody said "They bitin off of SU/JSU/UAPB".

So... if its a signature song, id stay away from playing it unless its at the signature band (and it better be a d@mn good version to do so). But songs that a band might have played x amount of years ago, as long as it ain't the same version, Go ahead

  • Actually SU played Get Ready way back in the 70's first J- State just made it a signature song for their band just like Gangsta Btch, and I got 5 on it, and  You Can Hate Me Now. But it's cool I think it's a bigger insult when you don't do the song justice.

  • I feel that if THE BAND DOES NOT OWN THE RIGHT TO "SONG A".. OR ISN'T RECEIVING A RESIDUAL INCOME OFF OF THAT SONG IT IS UP FOR GRABS!!!!

    PVU's Genesis, Messiah
    PB's M4
    NSU's Behold
    SU's fanfares
    JSU's blowin
    Gram's SWAC

These fanfares are composed by the respective band directors of these schools... NOW biting "signature" songs such as torture, swoop, swamp, ET, comes in when you Another band chooses to play the "SAME EXACT ARRANGEMENT"... that's stealing or biting.. IMO.. Our "Careless Whisper" was arranged from the Twilight movie.. Or in a more ignant term.... If there was any "biting" Goin on.. It was from Twilight/Seether...
  • alot of bands played five on it in 95 in their dance routines it was popular but many bands brung it back as a crowd favorite get ready tons of bands played it too this can be a on going debate as long as its not the same arrangement. hate me now 99 hell everyh hbcu played that and u right about the no justice lol if u gon play a song back make  STATEMENT
