  • what yall should do is PROTEST. sight a petition and give reasons to keep Music Education in schools .. (not just for band)
  • LMFAO!!!!!!!!!  He is right though. The best thing you can really do is protest and spread the word. See this is what happens when people think that the only thing they have to vote for is President. Please people, take local voting more seriously.

  • It's been proven time and time again that schools systems that support the arts, with special emphasis on music education, out perform those schools who do not. Music enhances intellectual ability in every field and thats fact! Schools with high academics typically have 20 to 30% of their budget in the arts with emphasis on music education. Besides, music is what separates us from other species on this planet...it has biological bases in our dna and is important to our survival. If you ask me, music need to be a core subject like math, reading and science.

One of many articles. It's time for Detroit and cities like it to do the research and quit looking for easy ways out. There's no telling how many lives have been saved and advanced with musics help.

Let us not forget the work of those who have paved the way for advancement in music education.

    And many many others....

    Suzuki

    Dalcroze

    Carl Orff

    Kodaly

Let face it, whenever our suburban partners decide to make cuts, they understand that someway somehow music NEEDS to be there. If Detroit wants to help itself and it's music....they need to put people in charge that understand the importance of the arts with special emphasis in music education within successful school systems.

  • On a lighter note....I hear that Mr. Pruitt has stepped down and Mr. Mack is stepn up. Mr. Mack is DEF gud for Detroit music!

I have had the privilege to visit and be apart of sum very successful music systems and I must say that the musical exposure that is available in Detroit, (i.e. Motown, DSO, DSA, Evening of Fine Arts, Detroit All City Band, Civic Jazz Band, UofM, Blue Lakes Fine Arts Camp, MSBOA, Solo and Ensemble, America's Thanksgiving Day Parade, Michigan Youth Arts Festival, etc etc etc) at its best....SECOND TO NONE!!!! I've yet to see a system with as much storied, quality and successful programs in place.

  • Man....when will it end??

  • well people should...think about all the excellent musicians that are from detroit...a whole lot of bands play motown music and more....people should care and try to help.

  • So not tru. With the way things are shaping up....America can no longer afford to forget and neglect cities like Detroit. U need us to survive if you plan to compete with developing countries and growing economies such as those found in China and India. No longer can America just sit back in the surburbs and forget about blue-collar cities like Detroit. Detroit will see better days. Corporation are starting to figure this out. No longer is saving cities like Detroit just the right thing to do....it's becomming the corporate thing to do. You want a population of educated innovated workers....then you'll have to really educate us! Long live Detroit, it's culture and it's music.
