HBCU bands on BET every Saturday

I know its a lot of younger kats out there that probably don't remember, but we did,.........there use to be a HBCU footballgame on BET every saturday.I wish it could get back to those days. Yeah we got maybe one game a month on the 4 letter network #ESPN, but they put us on at night when Bama is playing LSU,back then we was on centerstage...I was in beginner's band in the 6th grade, and i grew up in Washington Addition, right beside JSU, I can remember them out there practicing til 1, 2 o'clock in the morning,Of course growing up in the hood we couldn't afford to go to the games, but the first time i ever seen Southern was on BET, I don't remember what stadium they was marching in, but i seen those cymbals(Z's what yall call em now) flashing and i was like that was so smooth.... feel free to share your memories.....

  • BET sold us (the African American community) out. The network is now owned by Caucasians (whites). This is why HBCUs arent getting as much exposure as they did in the 90s, early 2000s. This is why College Hill ended. Soon, black college tour will be put to cease. ESPN is fine and all, but alike other networks, they dont air the whole HBCU experience. BET back then did air the whole game; halftime fieldshows and all. I'd like to write BET and ask them why.

  • bounce tv covers them now. jan 11th will be basketball on bounce.
  • I do remember these days. And they showed the halftime. My freshman year of college, 2003, I got a chance to play in a couple of BET games. BET would always help us get celebrities to perform with us. It was a kool deal. Maybe Oprah and Tyler Perry will look out for us now. -__-

  • They sure did, in the Circle City Classic in1992 South Carolina State performed with Levert, and we(JSU) performed with Men At Large. Every year the Circle City Classic was on tv.

  • BET used to really support the black bands. Now I don't watch BEt at all. Sux
  • I don't think anyone watches BET anymore. TV One and VH1 is where its at now. As far Bounce TV everyone doesn't have that station. I think BET is now for the younger generation.

  • I remember those days!!!

  • I believe if I'm not mistaking that Bounce tv mainly associate themselves with the CIAA and SIAC. I maybe wrong but from some the football games I saw them broadcast this past season I really didn't see any SWAC or MEAC schools.
  • Yes I remember those days.....someone needs to look out for and support us.

  • I remember that as well...and to Basshorn92 Westside Jackson Washington Addition I call home as well lol... but anyway I think they should start back doing HBCU games and College Hill it showed the HBCU experiences and ESPN be having tape delays of some of their games which is crazy...Bounce show it but Bounce don't have the exposure like a BET
