Legalizing hazing. Just a thought...

With that in mind, since we're having a difficult time policing hazing, why not make it legal? Anybody who willingly participates should waive their rights to malpractice suits and then maybe all this drama can be avoided. The reality is that hazing is going to be a hard deal to completely stamp out in society. So why not legalize it and let these idiots beat each other senseless? I say make them sign contracts that detail what they may be subjected to, just like in those late night prescription commercials with the long list of possible side effects. Im jus sayin.... o_0

  • I dont think it was ever legal.  People in the 60s and 70s were a different breed.  They took a beatdown and went on about their business.  Things now have law enforcement involved because it has gotten so out of hand.  You didnt hear of people dying in the 70s from hazing or getting their thigh bones broken and things of that sort.

Im not in agreement with you guys.  I have a 3 yr old son who is planning to be in band.  Trust me he will beast on his instrument, but if I find out some high school niggas or some dude who trash on his horn is hitting my son, I will reign down tyranny on somebody.  But my son will understand what hazing is and what respect is.  Some people just get joy out of beating and harassing others

  • A lot of bands already require band members to sign contracts, so that is not helping.

The only way that the contract will help is if a case makes it into the courtroom, and the judge says "you signed this contract, and chose to participate in hazing anyway. CASE DISMISSED!!!"

  • there's hazing in the military... but when its displayed within movies, books and documentaries the military denies it

  • people need to sit down and DISTINGUISH between HAZING and DISCIPLINE

The folk that never had any status, name, recognition are usually the ones who take the "hazing" rituals too far, and EVERYBODY knows at least one guy/girl who fits this category. Once people understand how to discipline people rather than haze them, this will begin to alleviate this problem.

  • Sounds like a good idea

  • Happy Holidays People!
  • More government, more drama...

  • The day hazing becomes legal will be the same day marijuana becomes legal.  It ain't gonna happen.  All that needs to happen is that those who get caught hazing, as well as those who know about it and don't report it be subject to harsher penalties under the law...MUCH HARSHER...
