On Facebook, DaEdge1 said that Neck shouldn't be played in the 5th. That inspired this thread.

My take is, any of bands Standard repertoire doesn't belong in a 5th.
It's likely you'll hear Marches before a game. They don't belong in a 5th or Battle unless required

Usually, we hear common band tunes during a game. so when it comes to 5th's or Battles, The way i feel is, That part belongs to all the tunes that you want to hear "Completely" that couldn't get played during the game due to time restraints.

BOTB's are nearly free game, but playing an Expected line up of tunes gets old to bandheads.
the only people that gets over on, are folks who never heard those tunes before.

  • I think for me the 5th is for more songs to the following genres: r&b, pop, gospel and ballads. To me a battle should strictly be more hip hop and r&b because it's aggressive in nature.

I mean 5th quarters used to be 30 to 50 minutes now we are good if we get 20 minutes....
  • I agree. A 5th should have songs that really showcase the band's strengths. Rap songs are OK if there are various parts to it... ie: Southern The Jungle

  • I think it all depends on the feel of the battle. You can just about play anything depending on how you want to counter the other band. "Feel of the battle/crowd"
