I only seen Kirby,Whitehaven and Oakhaven Live this year. Obviously all 3 had a good year...I had fun covering these 3 bands and hope to get even more for the 2010-11 school year. I dont see a decline in these bands unless they get a decline in students..otherwise..all the directors of these bands will bring much to the table each time their band performs.
I haven't seen Melrose in person so i can't give an honest opinion on you all. But I have also covered Kirby and Oakhaven all year and I like what Kirby brings to the table every year. I can listen to them play a ballard anytime. I think some people really gone have to watch out next year for them in and out of the city. As you can see I'm always with Oakhaven since I am an Alumni of the school. But for this to be only our third full year with a band since 1985, I think we had an excellent year and next year will only be better for our program. We beat out some schools we hadn't beat the first 2 years and showed we can run with the best of em. I hadn't seen Whitehaven that much but when I did they were doing what they do and representing Memphis. I think next year will be very interesting for all active programs in the city next year and I hope the competition only gets better. To all the bands that came out this year in Memphis I give you all props to. Let's make 2010 - 2011 and even better year for Memphis.
if u wanna see more recent clips of melrose..go to melrose showdown on youtube..u can type in melrose showdown to hear if i ever fall in love...and and u can type melrose showdown whitehaven to hear us play lets get away...i havent seen oakhaven or kirby..but i know from watchin vids they made a big improvement..as a matter of fact..all memphis bands have made progress..spread the word to friends and family...friday may 21st...there will be a showdown featuring fairley kirby melrose woodale and a 1 percent chance of douglas..it will be held at fairley high...i cant wait...this showdown will be a good one
lol why are yal still doing showdowns?.... the school year is like over....and another thing.....why are yal playing against the same bands over and over and over again? do yhu think other memphis city school bands are a waste of time for yal to compete against or is it just yal scared or sumthing?? how about throwing a school in the mix....like...um... idk....EAST?...and i bet yhu might be surprised of what that band can do! trust me! if you need a second opinion ask hillcrest, sheffield, douglass and other small memphis bands about east! Yal have to be a little more open to how and who yal select a showdown with...cuz i bet melrose probably know er'thang kirby fina play. and kirby probably know what fairley gone play and so on and so on.....im just sayin... there are other GREAT memphis city school bands in Memphis besides those bands that play each other.....ALL THE TIME! lol
east has been to MANY events in memphis, the whitehaven parade, the oakhaven parade, the oakhaven botb, new orleans, etc...so yhu can't say we haven't been out or seen cuz we have. i think ppl see our size and feel no threat....but oh looks can be decieving, oakhaven only a lil bit bigger den us and look and hear how good dey sound. so i feel branch out a lil bit more.

So no, they are not scared, we don't mess with yall, Because if yall don't say nun, they assume yall don't want no trouble. And as for Douglass, they are trash. The only band they can get up with is Wooddale.
