What are your first thoughts of the games from yesterday?TxSU vs Bama State: Tie. Both bands were similar in numbers and volume. I think Bama States arrangements were more full, but the book was not out of the ordinary and their arrangements could use more personality. TxSU had a nice book but their arrangements are choppy, especially on ballads. Overall, I was impressed with both bands. They both seem to clean up their sound, but both bands need work before they go against the other bands.J-state va UAPB: Winner: J-State... UAPB is consistently one of the best sounding bands in the SWAC. They could use more pop songs but they were solid, no complaints. J-State is setting up to be the most entertaining band in the SWAC. Based on what I've seen so far, they are #1. Their arrangements have improved and they are back to that 2013 power. We have not seem enough from Southern to put them #1 for the season yet.Still waiting on Alcorn va Gram but from I've seen from both bands, Alcorn is a beast and Gram is solid.

  • It wasn't a Tie between TxSU and ASU. TxSU marched out with the "W"...Both can work on improving in different areas. But the Ocean took that W with ease. #Whoosh

  • After a few days of looking at the tape, I will agree that TxSU took the W, but I stand by with what I said about Bama St having fuller arrangements. Bama St. has to work on their book and diversity. I like that they remix other band's signature songs and the power is there, but they have to open up a little more.

It's great to see a band like TxSU match up with Bama St. size and sound wise. TxSU does not have to get bigger to be a top band in the SWAC, but I know they want to hit 200. I'm 100% positive that they will be able to clean up their ballads and have more confidence in the songs when they play the bigger bands. I know this is not TxSU's style, but I want to see them play something technical against J-State and SU and show more musicianship. I'm hardly disappointed whenever they play the bigger schools, so I'll wait and see what they have in store.
