  • Marching Band will always be a sport in my eyes...

It has some of the same things a lot of other sports have...It requires skill, fitness(to an extent). It's organized. It's fun and entertaining. It's fair(except for BR BOTBs). Has rules. Very competitive.....Why not? Hell, Chess is considered as a sport in many places..

  • to us yes....

to most of the world no....

  • The only reason I'd say that Marching Band should be considered a sport is because sports and athletes are just entertainment in the fans' eyes.

People go to football games for entertainment.  They go to baseball and basketball games for entertainment.  ESPN stands for Entertainment Sports Programming Network.  Notice how Entertainment is mentioned before Sports?  LOL

Marching bands are there for entertainment.  A lot of time and energy is exerted in order for them to do their function.  A lot of Training and Practice is done as well.  So in many ways, it is comparable to a sport.  The only thing that's missing are officials to keep things in check, and a general scoring system.  Other than that...

  • I feel like since Band documentaries have been featured on ESPN and other sports programs it should be in the Athletics Category plus a lot of teams admit that bands and keeping the spirit up helps them....For example at my High School the coaches get upset when we dont attend a game because they consider us as the twelfth man...

  • Yeah, band is a sport and an art form to me. Hell at a mojority of football games, people come JUST to see the band. We also put in as much work at practice as the football or basketball team. So I don't see why it shouldn't be considered a sport.

  • Is rapping a sport, jazz, orchestra? HELL NO... GTFOH!

  • At my school we practice more than the football team they be askin us...like dang why yall here so long and why yall practice so much ?

  • Most definitely a sport...

    conditioning,

running songs(plays) over and over til their right,

    watching film of the competition,

    adding the occasional fanfare(trick play),

    pre-game rituals,

    locker room pranks,

    regular season,

    post season,

    exhibition,

    all-stars,

    camp,

sure smells like a sport to me!

  • hahaha indeed it is a sport ! lol
