Since there's nothing else to talk about LOL

Cranking on a band when they are not in a position to play back...

Disrespectful? Or is it just how the game goes?

Not trying to start a JSU/SU war (I already know that's where it's headed LOL), but is there a such thing as "band etiquette"? Are there certain times/situations where it's going too far?

  • there is to some....but to other heck naw lol
  • Seriously, I put that along the lines of playing on a band when they are marching into a stadium, or the visiting band kicks up a tune while the home band is going back into the stands after halftime....

In all three situations, the band taking the hits can't respond back at all....

btw, i fixed your initial post Funkie....when you try to embed a Utube clip in the original discussion, make sure you go to HTML editor and insert it there

and another note:  I think I found out why some posts are out of order....if you edit or quote a person, that is making a change in the initial order of post and it puts it towards the top...dunno if yall understood that

  • Disrespectful due to the fact the band that is blowing on the other bands back knows that the other band isn't going to just turn around and blow back when they are about to perform a field show. No way of getting around it. I'm looking at it from a band directors prospective. Students will feel otherwise.
  • Again, that could be applied to all of my scenarios as well....whats the difference? In my scenarios, the band on the receiving end is in NO position to respond either.  You expect them to stop mid-cadence and strike up a tune?  When has that ever happened?  NEVER!!!

FAMU tried that ish in 2003 in Mobile....we just finished our show and was leaving the stadium in cadence....they decided to strike up a tune (think it was Just Got Paid, not too sure)  and half the Boom was already out the gate....but at that time, "FAMU was blown on the Boom"....Doc TTRed the brass and took it to the stands....

  • Thanks, I was wondering why the video didn't come up!!!

The only reason I didn't see anything wrong with JSU doing it is because SU has/would have done the same thing if the opportunity was there.

  • Mr Jackson is wild but i actually don't think Mr. Jackson would have blew on JSU when they were about to go on the field. I know he is wild but he has calmed down a little lol.
  • Oh ok. Well there's no doubt Patty Greggs would have LOL
  • I don't think he would have done it either. His mind set was he had nothing to prove. If he was still at SU he would be the last someone doing something like that. He's to chill, he would have been sitting, smoking his joe lol.
  • So when SU cranked on JSU coming up the ramp in '97, who was that?
