  • 1986 i believe... and idk who da BD was b4 doc
  • 86? WTH lol. It was way before 86. Ludwig Freeman was the band director before Dr. Greggs by the way. Mr Freeman actually designed SU's uniforms and Doc Greggs tweaked the look a little. Got this info from my dad who marched for SU in the 70's.
    • WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How dare you disgrace your father by attending such a pie university and band program. If i was your father Sallie Mae would be your best friend cause I wouldn't pay a DAMN DIME for your education. smh
  • 86?????  lmao!!!!!   i think that the name humanjukebox came along in the very early 70',s  gotta do some research on that
  • Well, actually, take a look at this interview with Doc that was done in 2006 http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5073233  He says they came up with that name about 20 years ago...which would be 86 or somewhere in that range...
    • listen to the video  clip dont know what doc was thingking about. i marched in 85 and we were akready the human juke box then. the name probably came in the 60' or the 70's
  • 1986 is the stone age to some people lol
  • LOL. Technology-wise, 86 is like the stone age compared to now....but yea, it really isn't that long ago. They came up with the name "Human Jukebox" around 86...but Doc had been there since 1970...Idk what they were like prior to that time.....all i know is they were entirely different before Doc Greggs came there.....

    S.U. Band Directors
Who was the BD before Doc, and what year did the greatness we now know as The Human Jukebox start?
  • SU and La Legend,Dr T.Leroy Davis  was the BD before Greggs was hired in 1969...........

Dr Davis mentored and taught many of the music teachers/band directors that built the good and very good bands in their infancy(1950s-1960s)..

Dr.Davis was responsible for hiring female music teachers on both the high school and SU system level.
  • I know a man Dr. Butler who at one time was over the testing department at TSU. He went to SU in the 60's. He says they actually WEREN'T much different. And Doc got to SU in 1969, same Prof. Butler(no relation to Dr. Butler) got to Texas Southern University from his stint and masters at Michigan. But, Doc knew Patty in Michigan(both Alphas). And I thought they were called the Jukebox LONG before 86.
