SWAC BANDS SO FAR

WHAT YALL THINK ABOUT EVERY SWAC BAND SO FAR ILL START BASED ON MY OPINION.NO ORDER BTW

ALCORN- every year this band has been improving on everything sound wise and arrangements you can tell a new director was needed to start a fresh start but same traditions.Even though some sections arent as polished alcorn has came a long way over the years I just be very confushed with their field style sorta reminds me of SU?JSU a tad bit but alcorn keep up the good work and them drills!

GRAMBLING- The field is not the issue GSU put is putting on entertaining shows this season and drilling their butts off its just the stands yes GSU is clean but the volume is not there sometimes the arrangements have improved BIG TIME and im waiting to hear more songs at the games...that " got me wide open" arrangement is nice and that " kissing on my tats" is nice. BUt i just want more volume.TRUMPETS ARE NICE.

SOUTHERN- i have to say SU is doing excellent this season they finally woke up from the beginning of the season and BOTH stands and field are GREAT arrangements are top notch this year and SU is finally getting good press looks like both GSU/SU is doing it big when it comes to promoters.

JACKSON- TAYLOR is back i at first thought he was going to have JSU old school but he has fastly got the band to where he needs them ive never seen the arrangements are nice and even though they can over blow at times they are clean on most songs THE FIELD  is where the boom has seriously seriously improved at finally entertainment is back i wanna see more the SWAC championship drilling like 2013 but JSU is doing great this season.

Prairie View - WELCOME BAck still not there but welcome back as of sound and size. THat rapture is a beast  if that 04 or 05 band had that omg. AND glad traveling is there seems the school is finally supporting the storm! only issue is trumpets are thin!! and field shows are blah this season.

UAPB- SMALL but sounding great and powerful too just havent seen yall against anyone to fully judge yall on a across the field bases but graham is doing a great job with what he have! Arrangements are nice and band is clean!

TXSU- stands are doing well and improving very well along the season. clips are looking nice field shows are good and MOtion is improving too from the beginning of the season. YALL HAPPY arrangement is pretty nice keep improving.

AAMU- yall are shocking me this season small but wow that director is doing a great job over there not entertained by the field shows but stands aamu is sound pretty good the lower brass is hold the band down!

BAMA ST- thank you for cleaning up the sound thank you!!! field shows are getting there and yall are improving big time i just dont care for some of the arrangements but yall overall sound makes up for it!

MVSU- gaines needs at least 2 more seasons to get teh band where it needs to be the sound is improving im glad he cleaned up that loud harsh sound from last season arrangements are improved and the new neck is working mvsu field shows are still needing improved just boring imo but overall sound is getting there and doing well keep improving

2014 swac is looking and sounding pretty good so far everyone has improved in something and thats a good thing i havent seen a BLOW OUT ALL SEASON and over the next few weeks stuff is going to get real.

  • New director at Alcorn is from SU, maybe that's why Alcorn's field show reminded you of them?

  • Murray is from JSU
  • Actually Murray marched in the Sounds of Dynamite from 1990-1994 playing tuba. The JSU job came a few years later while Lewis Liddell was JSU Head Director. Alcorn position came available in 2011 when Samuel Griffin retired.

  • There are  assistants who are from SU thats what he means.

  • isnt griffin an murry alcorn's only directors head wise?
  • I believe Everson Martin the asst director of bands was in SU band. Griffin has been given another position at Alcorn to my knowledge.

  • He was a director at GHASB (Greater Houston All-Star Band) and is a Alcorn now and in charge of fieldshows I believe from what I know. (Yes he is from SU..plays trumpet)

  • Alcorn has had only 3 Head Band Directors in its history. But Griffin and Murray are the only 2 that have lead  the Sounds Of Dynomite.
