Tuba Sections Today

When did we get to the point where we define a good tuba section as who can play the highest notes? Last time I checked the tuba is a bass instrument. I don't wanna hear a tuba sounding like a baritone in it's high register. Let's try going in the opposite direction people. It's all about the bottoms. Most sections wouldn't even be close to heard if they played anything below a F right under the staff. What has the world come to?! Lol

  • As long as you blow the bells off the horn with high notes most dumb peeps are going to flock to that. Very ignorant.
  • I think you should have both abilites... as a bass player a lot of the time i'll play parts of the melody in my upper regsiter... so as long as its 4 measures or less i'm fine....
