Because everyone is trying to reach out to the same crowd, avoiding conflicts is the fair way to maintain the peace. Opelousas does that crap and its annoying. Folks get online and argue over the issue etc...

Late October - mid November is typically reserved for the larger battles. Peabody, Baker, SU, Ferriday, Carroll etc... The little guys have to host their events earlier in the season. If WM had a battle the same day or within a week as Baker, bands / fans would clearly go to Baker because the hot-shot bands would be there and no one would attend WM.
