Who decided to change the Marching Human Jukebox symbol to this video game logo and why? Also there is no reference to Southern University at all on this thing. Southern University is an institution of higher learning and at all times should be referenced when promoting any organization that represents the University. The Southern University Marching Band, at all times, should be mentioned and referred to as such 1st and not by a nickname.

  • I do have to ask why you feel the need to post this publicly? Seems like something that should be discussed privately with possibly the staff or other SU alums. I seriously doubt you are going to get the answer on here. Also, the band students still wear the traditional S band shirts.

  • I think the question can be asked publicly, and the answer could be given privately if they choose to do so.

I said that this would happen the first time I started to see this logo on YouTube videos!!! I believe it's a marketing strategy that companies use when one company buys out another. Instead of coming in and making a change immediately, the old company is phased out slowly to avoid any kind of backlash or rejection from consumers, i.e. Time Warner/Comcast/Xifinity or Reliant/NRG, etc. You watched the logo being changed on YouTube and the Human Jukebox Website, then high school band camp t.shirts, then the new logo was sent in for the top 5 college bands promo the NCAA is doing, and I'm willing to bet this new logo will be on the hoodies or warmups for Bayou Classic!!! Did you notice that this past year for the first time ever wearing the hoodies to a bayou classic, the "S" was not on the front, but on the actual hood?? Even at the band picnic a few weeks ago, what was on the shirt Mr. Haymer and some other people wore??? It's my opinion, but I think $$$ is going to be made on merchandizing this logo. This logo will be something that everyone will be able to wear because it's NOT the "S". It's a way to make more $$$ a lot faster. Now this is my theory, so bash me if you want, but I just look at the facts!!! I have never seen this band campaign for $$$ the way they have in the past two years!! That doesn't mean they don't need it, but as far as I know the band has ALWAYS needed $$$ so I can't knock'em too much for that!!!!

Marketing strategies are different now with all the social media vehicles out there and the ability to reach a lot more people faster, so I do understand the rationale behind all of the campaigning, especially in light of the Jindal effect, and school's $$$ issues!!!! But campaign to save SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY!!!! Not just the band program!!!! Who knows, maybe they're just trying to set it up where the band functions without the University in case something catastrophic happens where the school closes!!! Call me a conspiracy theorist, but all the signs point in that direction!!!!

I have to agree with Jukebox 89 on the image is about Southern University first and foremost!!!! That "S" means a lot to everyone who TRULY knows what you had to go thru to wear it!!! That's why it's so close to the heart of those who understand in ways most people would never know!!!! To me, that "S" stands for SOUTHERN!!!!!!

  • KEEP THE "S" ON OUR CHEST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • First of all, I don't think ANYBODY who marched in THAT band, and was brought through the right way would say that "they don't care about a logo!!" As MUCH as I had to GO THRU to get it....!!!!! C'mon Man!!!!!

Jukebox89 brought up something that he observed, and I just gave my analysis on what's been obvious to me!! As far as the "not representing the university" comment that's not what I said!! I said that maybe it is something being setup within to be able to exist, in case the worse possible scenario happened!! I never said they don't represent Southern University!!! Jukebox 89 made a point to say that the image being used to represent "The Human Jukebox Marching Band" is not the same as "The Southern University Marching Band" known as The Human Jukebox because "Southern University" is no where in the logo!!!!

  • Here's a picture I found on the web....out of all 5 bands and what they sent in to represent the school you tell me where it says Southern University!!!! So it shouldn't matter if the school's name is not a part of their image????

I honestly don't care about a logo. I care more about the band's viability in the future. Making a big fuss about a logo isn't going to help our fundraising campaign. Folks are always worried about the wrong things. I don't know where this whole "not representing the university" thing is coming from. It is pretty clear folks always associate the Human Jukebox with Southern University. When we come on the field it is always presented as "The Southern University Marching Band from Jaguar Land."  Did you also notice how the band performed at several SU recruiting events around the state? Did you also notice that the band travel suits still had the "S" logo? Did you also notice that when the band performed at SU day at the State Capitol, their band shirts had the traditional "S" logo?

  • Well that statement clearly isn't true considering I said it. The band's future viability is much more important than worrying about whether or not they are changing the band logo. Last I checked, the band shirts and band uniform are still the same traditional design.

  • What do you think SUBR stands for? How many people do you think know that LSJUMB is Stanford's band? What about OSU Marching Band? To the ignorant fan, they may think that stands for Oregon State or Oklahoma State and not Ohio State. I am pretty sure their folks aren't raising heck over their choice for a logo.
