This Firing of Jon Waters was Unruly IMO. Why? because He was fired for something that existed within the band prior to his directorship. As for him filing Suit against the University, I can't comment on that beyond "I feel him" ..
In My Opinion Some of the things the band does (as any band does) as Director, he could have taken more control over the freshmen and Upperclassmen relations to subdue or suppress the elements that may have been Over the Top and Off the Wall as it regards to the Universities Image. Otherwise The Band's Traditions should remain..But even with that said. It proves that everything passed down year after year isn't always a thing of Tradition.
Much of what the news papers highlighted were the same things that bands & Greek orgs have gotten in trouble for in the past, It's not even that big of a deal isn't in comparison to Physical Hazing Cases that have taken place over the years
... With that said . There are HBCU Bands that need directors. What if Mr. Waters Ends directing at HBCU? wouldn't that be great?

It would definitely be interesting. I'm sure he'd bring alot of new ideas and connections to whatever school he'd be apart of.
Has there ever been an HBCU band that has had a Caucasian BD? IF not, that would be a first as well.
He explained the culture is so "entrenched" and dates to the 1930s, so it doesn't "change on a dime."
That can be applied to ANY situation...
He should have been fired. That's is like a white cop saying we beat black people because it dates back to slavery days GTFOHWTBS. Furthermore, at this time, I didn't think a HBCU wants his drama on their hands.
I've seen caucasian percussion directors. Not a BD though
