Is it the quality of the music or is it something else? please explain. its just a question nothing more,nothing less. Because i really don't know what a "good" band is.

Personally I think it is the type of musicians the School produces....Like what they do on the next Level (College or professional) That is a true judge of your program. What you produce.Just like a football team...how many Athelets are prepared for college and do good things on the next level.
A "good" high school band can play with little to none mess ups and sound good..but a GREAT band means that EVERYONE in the band plays with the best tone and musicianship as possible, staying in tune with EVERY section, being balanced (Not JUST hearing overblaring trombones, euphoniums etc.),and being able to play Dynamics besides loud and soft. Being able to play grade 6 music and making superiors every year...thats a great band
It boils down to discipline (decision making). If you're disciplined, you'll stand at attention and await instructions, work to get better at reading and playing, push to march with the right style, listen to the rest of the section and band, and carry out the drill as it is designed. Those people that don't have discipline tend to do those thing poorly, either by neglect or by doing them wrong on purpose.
hey like it says on my page....( I see folks have different versions of what greatness is...HUMM...)..... man Martin... a great program.. is simply the best at what they do and at what everybody eles dose... all the things that the kind folks above discribe are very true, so put that togethere... and there ya go there are many thing that makes your program (GOOD)...but to be great.. it takes time and alot of hard work as a unit and not just by the director, students or band boosters......ROME was not build in a day and nither will anybodys program be great in a day or two to five years... but a good program can happen in 1 or 2 it just depends on how hard you and the rest of you band members work at it.
to adhere to the standards of your band & School represents, while putting the basic principals of musicianship and marching technique to use in a proper manner makes your band good.

Alot but hey I dont really mind all that tells me is that kids are atleast trying to have a good program.. i know its retarded but atleast they trying to be better some band members dont even care about being good let alone aight
