  • Some can ask if college students know what it means!
  • so when was full sounding band a musical term,,,and if they don't know what blowing means then they need to take up golf
  • "Blowing" and "full sounding" are not the same thing.

A band can blow tha lacquer off their horns while playing the emptiest sounding arrangement in existence.

Also, a band doesn't have to be blowing to sound full.

Fullness depends on the arrangement itself, and the maturity of the band's overall sound...not its volume or power.
  • I agree with the two posts above. They aren't the same thing.
  • Little Boy Blue, come blow your horn.
The sheep's in the meadow, the cow's in the corn.
Where is the boy that looks after the sheep?
"He's under the haycock, fast asleep."
    Will you wake him? "No, not I;
For if I do, he'll be sure to cry."
    ..
Proof that Blowing is a Musical Term for "Producing Sound with Air:"..
  • THAT IS CORRECT BOOK...now...ON YA FACE.....AND GIVE ME MY MONEYS WORTH!!!!!!

    The Book said:

Why do we always say "Blowing" instead of saying full sounding band? " Blowing is not a musical ter…
How come we use the term blowing instead of saying full sounding band? Do high school students understand what this term mean?
  • elaborate on back of the bus please......SU,FAMU, UAPB, PV....sounds like ur in sum good company bruh....only if u mean that as an insult tho if not then sum1 tap my shoulder lol
  • .. I thought blowing was the name of a Fanfare JSU plays... (lol) ...

Nah but really, like it's not that big of a deal....ike Mike said.. you gotta analyze the term being used..

for example ... Crank / Cranking or "Crank Up"

SU would play neck .. someone would say "Man, Them Boys CRANKIN'" , It's just used to describe a high level of performance .. or to play with more volume.

..With a Jack In The Box .. You have to Crank The Lever in order for the song to play .. the Faster you do it. the faster the music plays.. and The Jack pops out quicker why. because you're Playing With Force

Or when you Crank up a Motor .. (Starting up)....Or to Crank Up the radio (turn up the volume

We use these words describe an action ...thats all that matters...

When SU plays I Remember you'd hear Lawrence Jackson say "1, 2, BRING THAT MUSTARD!!!" .. we all know that Mustard is not a Musical Term Either.. But You Automatically Know.. thats indication that The First Note will hit you with Force if it was not for Alternative Phrases and Slangs, He'd be yelling " 1 2, PLAY WITH ENTHUSIASM!!"

    ..lol
  • Which is EXACTLY why ALL of our bands need to go back to their own element.

Honestly, all SWAC bands are NOT meant to be blowing bands, or top dogs when it comes to stand presence.

Also, all SWAC bands are not cut out to be juggernauts on the field at halftime.

We all have our strong points, but it is imperative that we all find our forte, and work with that.

But I digress...this isn't what this thread is about...

This is about folks thinking that a "blowing" band a "full sounding" band are one and the same.

    Michael Williams said:
You know some of these people are all prissy and their bands are the main ones that try to blow but can't control it nor master it. The main that say they don't like it, be all on SU's jock when their school plays us.

    ROTFL.
