Which band reminds you most of a pre katrina band? Before katrina,Our bands were much different, ain MY opnion, one of the smallest pre katrina bands could DESTROY a post katrina band with no question.but now, only two bands seem like they will get close to prekatrina band status, even st aug is far from pre katrina status, which is depressing,,.

  • It's 2009 sir...
  • I'll give it 10 years
  • 2009 or not, The New Orleans Band Community is still separated by Pre-Katrina and Post-Katrina. During the 2000 era New Orleans Bands were already suffering due to budget cuts at the Middle School and High School Levels.

Katrina decimated the community leaving it on Life Support.

Post Katrina, we are looking at a New Orleans Band Community where MOST don't have the same years of experience they had before.

    Pre-Katrina....
Our Middle Schools were equalivent to most cities High Schools. (McDonalds All-Stars)
Our High Schools would have given probably more than half of HBCU Bands a run (NCAA)..... (because we would have PROVOKED them to address us.... and keep fuggn with them until they did.... We didn't give a fugg WHO it was.... If you stepped in The N.O. you had to EARN our respect).

And For Those who left High School and Decided to March in College, iti was like going to the Pro's. (NBA)

    Post Katrina...

A lot of kids are still picking up their horns and sticks for the first time in High School.... Which has leveled the playing field Greatly between New Orleans and other cities.

Behrman, Fishcer and Roots of Music are helping to address the feeder issue though.... SO we'll see how things go. But its going to be a work in progress to get New Orleans to become the Monster it used to be.

In Essence the Task of OUR Generation is Rebuilding New Orleans.
  • I feel like Edna Karr band is going in the right direction and Warren Easton also

  • Yeah, I took private lessons. I took lessons in elementary school, but my school had instructors who traveled from school to school. I went to Bienville.

So for me it all started in the 7th Grade (Gregory). Although I will say it amazed me at how SEASONED the 8th Grade Snare players were (I played snare at the time). Felt like they'd had to have been playing for years.

We'll see what New Orleans looks like after the Roots of Music, Behrman, Fisher and any other kids who've been on a horn since middle school have made it to High School.
  • Salisbury Taught my brother the Truumpet!
!. He TRAINED Woodwinds and Upper brass to be Dominant forces
